8 Quick Tips to Battle Depression

Blast it all. I enjoy writing with humor. But I can’t right now. because I’m afraid I am compelled to talk about an unfortunate fact. I prefer not to mention it at all. But, here’s the deal. You are a person, or you know someone rather well who has suffered from depression. And very truthfully, most folks don’t understand it. Unfortunately, I do. This condition strikes many millions of people each year in every part of the world. The ensuing tips can’t immediately set a person free from this miserable condition. Having said that, since I’m a a past depression sufferer myself, I would like to offer 8 suggestions for encouragement (not essentially in order of importance). So, here they are.

1. Recognize that you are definitely not alone in this world of the depressed. In the United States, more than 19 million individuals struggle with depression. More females report symptoms of depression than do men, but I am certainly the perfect illustration that guys are susceptible to this particular problem too. Depression is sadly more frequent for those in the teenage and college years.

2. There is much, much reason for hope! Remember: Depression can be treated. You can get better. Psychological health specialists inform us that most people who deal with a depressive episode (80% or even more) may feel much better once they obtain an appropriate treatment method of various kinds. Sometimes it takes a while, however, you CAN GET BETTER! So, look forward to that time, and even whenever you feel significantly downhearted, keep in mind that these feelings will not stay with your forever. Cling to that thought!

3. Don’t ever emotionally beat up on yourself. No matter what started up the attack of depression, realize that you are certainly a person of great significance. I am a reverend and I pray you’re not offended, but you are without a doubt a living soul of amazing worth in the eyes of God. The struggles and trials of depression do not indicate that you are a worthless or bad person. In contrast, some folks emerge out of the condition with the ability to encourage many people given that there are plenty of men and women who cannot identify with the condition of depression.

4. De-fang depression. Whenever you go through your very first episode of depression, you may not realize exactly what it is, and this may really be alarming. Nonetheless, if you have recurring episodes of depression (that unfortunately is not unusual), you can take the fangs from depression by recognizing what it is, verbalizing what it is, and setting about the processes needed to recover. The more that you recognize what your condition is, and realize it is short-term, you should gradually find yourself being much less afraid of this terrible sadness if and when it occurs. You can start to de-fang depression.

5. Just remember that the condition of true depression is truly different in comparison to just getting the blues. The term “depressed” is oftentimes used by people who actually do not have an idea of what true depression is. Individuals say, “I’m really depressed today,” when actually they are experiencing a simple case of the blues with regard to any number of reasons. The date with the new guy didn’t go well. The boss yelled at them, etc. Everyone can get the blues on any given day. However, deep depression is so substantially worse than the doldrums and is not to be look at as only a mild condition.

6. Do not go through a depressive occurrence on your own. Depending on depth of your symptoms, inform a dear friend, relative, clergyman, and certainly your physician. To have those people who love and support you through this condition can considerably enhance and expedite your recovery time. And make a firm determination that if, at any time, you have considerable thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself, immediately consult expert medical help.

7. Prepare to battle depression on all fronts. After several years of my own study as well as personal battle with this issue, I recognize there can be several good reasons for a depressive episode. Check with your physician. But also consider a qualified counselor or a pastor or other clergyman who has expertise and the credentials to deal with depression. In my honest opinion it can sometimes be largely a medical/chemical issue, and many other occasions there are life experiences and emotional concerns that should be explored with a professional trained to deal with this frustrating mental health issue.

8. Don’t be shocked if a great degree of anxiety goes along with your depression. For me it was a vicious cycle. I was depressed and didn’t understand the reasons why, consequently my level of anxiety started to go through the roof, and the more my anxiety grew, that gave me more to become depressed about. So, eventually that was a cycle that I had to stop through some wise competent counseling. Just know that you might be anxious through this period of time which is not unheard of. Try not to stress over it any more than you are already worried, and continue to seek out your medical professional and/or counselor’s guidance.

I wish you the very best. You will succeed. You will certainly make it through this and find yourself feeling better. Realize that there is certainly help available and, especially, make sure you get that help. You can win! Blessings to all.
